Editor’s marathon run raises £1,200 for charity in mum’s partner’s memory

An editor has raised more than a thousand pounds for charity after running a marathon in memory of his mother’s partner.

Paul Fisher, managing editor at Newsquest’s Ayrshire and Clyde Weekly Press titles, completed the Manchester Marathon in honour of Dave Rogers, who died of kidney cancer last November.

Paul had initially set himself a fundraising target of £315 for Ayrshire Hospice but has now raised £1,250 for the charity through sponsorship.

A runner for North Ayrshire Athletics Club, he completed themarathon in a time of 3:20:04.

Paul, pictured after the run, told HTFP: “Since I seriously started running a few years ago, the marathon distance always seemed a bit out of sight but with the pandemic, the hurt so many of us have had and the lack of reality, I wanted to push myself.

“To complete the race was amazing, to see my wife as I entered the finishing straight was unreal and to raise a glass to those no longer with us was special.

“The Ayrshire Hospice is a charity that has helped a lot of my friends and family, to be able to raise over £1,200 for them fills me with an immense pride.

“Big thanks go to all of my clubmates, my coach Barry, my wife Emma, my family and friends and to the amazing people of Manchester for their support during the 26.2 miles of pain.”
