Editor leaves award-winning hyperlocal title after 22 years

A new editor has been appointed at an award-winning hyperlocal news title after her predecessor stepped down following 22 years of service.

Jennifer Bending has left the editorship of the Goring Gap News, in Oxfordshire, which she had held since 1999.

Gill Haigh has taken over the reins at the News, which won the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award for Voluntary Service in 2004.

Paul Bradstock has also stepped down as chairman of the monthly title’s publishing association after 11 years.

He will be replaced by Jeremy Spring.

Jennifer told the Henley Standard: “Looking back, a lot has changed. At the beginning, I was always going round to visit people but now a lot of correspondence is via email.

“I do wonder how things will change in future — we seem to get more of our news electronically these days but I think people would miss it dropping through their letterbox.”

Gill said: “It is a great privilege to be asked to be editor and I thank the committee for trusting me with this great responsibility.

“I am very aware of the important role which the Goring Gap News has in our vibrant community and in one way or another, everyone in the Gap is a stakeholder.

“I’m looking forward to hearing from contributors and working with the amazing team to continue its success.”
