Daily dedicates first seven pages to photos of coronavirus victims

A regional daily has dedicated its first seven pages to photographs of coronavirus victims to mark one year since its patch’s first Covid-19 death.

The Manchester Evening News has run the tribute edition honouring those have died as a result of the disease.

The edition’s publication comes after the MEN ran a series of articles online called Loved and Lost for coronavirus victims’ families to pay tribute to their loved ones.

A total of 218 pictures were featured in yesterday’s (9) newspaper, pictured below.

MEN editor-in-chief Darren Thwaites told HTFP: “We’ve been running a series of articles online called Loved and Lost to allow relatives to pay tributes to the victims of this awful pandemic.

“It felt appropriate to mark the first anniversary of the first death in our region by devoting our first seven pages to nothing but the faces and names of those we’ve covered since.

“We also wanted to convey the enormity of the loss, recognising that for every face we pictured, there are another 25 victims who have died in Greater Manchester alone.”
