Weekly’s former HQ to feel ‘more like spa’ after revamp

A weekly newspaper’s former headquarters are set to be transformed into offices designed around health and wellbeing.

Plans have been unveiled to turn No.1 Cardale Park, which housed the Harrogate Advertiser between 1991 and 2019, an eco-friendly business centre which will feel “more like a spa” for businesses based there.

The Advertiser moved out of Cardale Park last year following a review by JPIMedia of the regional publisher’s offices across the country.

Staff were temporarily based at the company’s Leeds office, but have since moved in to a new home on Grove Road, Harrogate.

Cardale Park, pictured, was opened by Princess Diana in 1991 as the home of Ackrill Newspapers, then owner of the Harrogate Advertiser Series, with printing and production on site.

According to the Yorkshire Post, the new development will eventually create workspace for up to 350 people.

The first phase of development will include 13 ground floor offices, 10 co-working desks, meeting rooms, reception, a kitchen area, shower facilities and a café.

There will also be low energy LED lighting throughout and Fairtrade coffee on tap.

Business centre manager Brittany Chadwick said: “A healthy body and state of mind are key to performance in the workplace which is why we have incorporated indoor and outdoor planting and relaxation space, a professional yoga studio and natural light into the design.”

She added: “We believe modern workplaces should support wellness goals, which is why the whole look and feel of 1 Cardale Park will be more like a spa than an office.”
