Publisher creates editor role as it launches new regional title

A publisher is recruiting an editor to head up a new regional news title it is planning to launch next year.

Reach plc has revealed it is setting up “dedicated Wirral brand” MyWirral as part of an expansion of the Liverpool Echo.

The company is now recruiting a dedicated Wirral editor to launch the project and build a “social and commenting community”.

The Echo currently publishes a Wirral edition, pictured below, and also has a section dedicated to news about the peninsula on its website. The area is also served by Newsquest weekly the Wirral Globe.

The job description for the new role states: “The Liverpool Echo is expanding and we’re now looking for a journalist to help us launch MyWirral.

“The Echo already has a loyal Wirral audience, a dedicated local democracy reporter and publishes unrivalled coverage of the borough’s courts.

“We now want to grow that audience with a dedicated Wirral brand committed to telling the stories that matter to the 300,000 plus people that live there.

“We are looking for a reporter to create compelling content. You will bring in stories and – critical to this role – build a social and commenting community around your content to ensure it reaches as many people as possible.

“This is not just about creating brilliant content, it’s about growing your own audience and influence within Wirral.”
