Newsagent launches appeal after thieves steal 100 copies of regional daily

Thieves have been slammed after stealing 100 copies of a regional daily from a newsagent.

Jonathan Powell, who runs Newspaper Delivery Newport, reported the theft of the copies of Monday’s South Wales Argus.

The papers were stolen from the firm’s unit on Pentonville, Newport, between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Mr Powell appealed on Twitter for anyone who had seen the lost copies to get in touch.

He said: “If you see them scattered around somewhere please let me know.

“Why someone would need 100 copies, I can’t even imagine.”

Argus editor Gavin Thompson told HTFP: “While we can understand that people might so keen to get hold of their South Wales Argus that they can’t wait for the shops to open, it is very disappointing to see this theft.

“For many people, the Argus is a friend that arrives through their letter box each day and local newsagents and delivery services are providing a real lifeline service for those who are currently feeling isolated during Wales’ stringent lockdown.”
