Regional publisher to fund two free places on journalism course

Andy WordenA regional publisher is set to fund two free places for students at the latest journalism training centre to win NCTJ accreditation.

Reach plc will fund two bursaries at Sutton College’s fast-track NCTJ diploma course.

HTFP reported in September how the course, which is being launched the college’s Wallington campus in January, had won accreditation from the National Council for the Training of Journalists.

The successful applicants will also take on weekly placements with Reach plc websites MyLondon and Football.London during their studies.

Applications are being sought from people local to the college who can’t afford the training and could bring diversity to the newsroom.

Andy Worden, pictured, editor of MyLondon, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support Sutton College. Journalism is an exciting and rewarding career and we want to make it accessible to as many people as possible.

“We launched MyLondon a year ago with the aim of telling stories which really matter to people across our great city.

“We can only do that by making sure our journalism is created by the most diverse range of voices possible, and working with Sutton College is a real privilege.

“We welcome the fact that students already recognise the potential of a career in journalism – and we’re happy to help them along on their way.”

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 18 December 2019, and more information can be found here.
