Students and journalists to do battle for regional media awards

LlewelaMedia students and working journalists will compete against one another for the first time at a regional media awards event.

Students who are on recognised courses at universities and colleges in the region are being invited to enter seven of the categories at this year’s Midlands Media Awards alongside working journalists.

They include Features Journalist of the Year, Blogger/Columnist of the Year, Story of the Year, Photographer of the Year ad Newcomer of the Year.

Collectively they can also enter the Newspaper of the Year and Magazine/Supplement of the Year categories.

Nominations are now being welcomed by organiser the Birmingham Press Club for all 16 awards up for grabs.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony held at Birmingham’s Canalside venue in November.

Llewela Bailey, pictured above left, chairman of the Birmingham Press Club, said: “The awards are now in their 16th year and, despite the print world being embroiled in a period of major change, they continue to be a hotly-contested and much-anticipated highlight of the Press Club calendar.

“Over the years, the standard of entries has got higher and higher. So we are once more looking forward to being able to showcase the incredible professionalism of media specialists who are certainly amongst the best in the country, and are delighted to again welcome HSBC as headline sponsor.”

Ticket prices for the event are £80 (including VAT) for individuals, while tables of ten are available at £750 (including VAT).
