Fund-raising bid to buy charity pig launched by regional daily

A regional daily has launched a fund-raising bid to buy a pig sculpture for charity.

As previously reported on HTFP, the Ipswich Star joined sister newspaper the East Anglian Times in supporting the Pigs Gone Wild charity project, which aims to raise funds for St Elizabeth Hospice, in Ipswich.

The project has seen more than 40 pig sculptures transformed into works of art after being given out to organisations across Suffolk.

The sculptures are now set to be auctioned off for the charity, but the Star is calling on readers to help raise £5,000 so that one of the statues can become a permanent fixture outside the hospice.

The campaign was launched on Monday’s front page, pictured above.

Editor Brad Jones said: “The Pigs Gone Wild trail has been such a fantastic success, and really put the town on the map. We’re all sad to see it go.

“But this campaign is a way of Ipswich saying ‘thank you’ to the hospice. Many people were involved and worked so hard to make it happen.

“So I hope everyone who enjoyed the trail will make a small donation. It would be a great way of preserving the Pigs Gone Wild legacy – and you’ll be helping the wonderful work of the hospice at the same time.”
