Newspaper revives daily sports pullout after reader consultation

A daily sports pullout has been revived by a newspaper after consultation with readers.

The Herald, Glasgow, brought back the pullout for the first time yesterday, after it was axed last year.

The tabloid supplement has been brought back because it was felt The Herald’s sports offering was getting “somewhat lost” as part of the main broadsheet paper.

In recent months, the pullout was only available on Saturdays and Mondays.

The pullout returned in Monday's edition

Stewart Weir, head of sport at the Herald & Times Group, said: “The pullout section of Herald Sport is returning for a number of reasons. Firstly, we felt the presentation of sport was being somewhat lost as part of the main, broadsheet paper, and that the tabloid section would give us scope to give a different look and feel to the sport.

“We also had feedback that the readership missed the specialised sport’s section, because they were able to detach it from the main paper and read and use it separately.

“The pullout has existed on a Saturday and Monday, and again, many preferred those days to the broadsheet format.

“But ultimately the tabloid section offers us the opportunity to present our sports coverage differently; it allows for bigger ‘reads’ – again something our readership have asked for – and allow us to cover of more sports, do more analysis and commentary on the biggest topics concerning Scottish and world sport.”
