Ex-sports editor helps launch new hockey paper

A journalist who left a weekly newspaper in the summer is helping launch of a new paper specifically covering the sport of field hockey.

Jon Couch, who was sports editor at the Aldershot News & Mail until a few months ago, is serving as executive editor of The Hockey Paper, which launches on Wednesday.

The Hockey Paper is being produced by Greenways Publishing, which also prints several other weekly sports papers – including The Cricket Paper, The Football League Paper and The Rugby Paper.

In his role with Greenways, Jon also serves as editor of The Golf Paper and news editor of The Non-League Paper.

Jon has also previously worked at the Surrey Advertiser, while the Hockey Paper’s editor-in-chief David Emery started his journalism career at the Surrey Comet.

Said David: “This is a thrilling time for hockey fans in the UK after the success in the Rio Olympics.

“We believe The Hockey Paper can tap into that interest and reflect the ever-growing status of the game.”

It will be available to buy at supermarkets and newsagents for £1.50, or readers can subscribe online.
