A regional daily’s senior features writer has been honoured by Scotland’s gay community for her work on LGBT issues.

Vicky Allan, pictured left, of The Herald, Glasgow, was named journalist of the year at the inaugural Icon Awards, held last week.

The awards, held in association with the Sunday Herald, were set up to celebrate the best of Scotland’s LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and transgender) community.

The award was given for Vicky’s work on reporting LGBT issues over the past 12 months.

Vicky tweeted following her victory: “Amazing Icon Awards event. “So many amazing winners, and amazingly I was one of them. Super chuffed.”

More than 30,000 votes were cast for the awards.
