Battle on as new weekly’s first edition hits shelves

The first edition of a new paid-for weekly has launched in a town already covered by a rival publisher.

Local World’s inaugural Grantham Target hit the newsstands this week and will go head-to-head with Johnston Press-owned weekly the Grantham Journal.

Stories appearing in the first edition include news about work starting on Grantham’s southern relief road, an ‘Out of Town’ feature on the nearby village of Harlaxton and four pages focusing on business success stories in the town.

A piece entitled ’15 reasons to buy the new Grantham Target’ also featured on its website earlier this week.

The new paper is priced at 50p compared to the Journal which has a cover price of 95p.

In a message to readers editor Adam Moss, pictured above holding a copy of the Target’s first edition, said: “It’s not every day that a team of journalists get the chance to start a new publication from scratch and we’ve really enjoyed getting to know the area, its people and writing the stories you’ll read.

“We’re aiming to bring you the latest news every week in the newspaper and breaking stories on our website every day.

“But we also want to document the significant events in your lives, highlight the local issues which are important to you and provide our advertisers with a fantastic platform to spread the word about their products and businesses.”

Added Adam: “Grantham is a town that’s on the up, with plans for thousands of new homes, major transport improvements and a growing local economy.

“We hope to become part of that emerging success story and we will certainly be doing our utmost to give people a good reason to part with 50p every Wednesday.”

LW’s Target series in Lincolnshire also includes existing titles in Sleaford, Boston and East Lindsey.
