Comedienne Sarah Millican has revealed the X-rated sales technique she once used to boost a regional daily’s sales figures.

The TV funnygirl spoke about the jobs she used to do as a teenager in this week’s episode of the Sarah Millican Television Programme, including working behind the counter at WH Smith’s in South Shields on Saturdays

Sarah revealed that when men came in to buy adult magazines she would hide them inside copies of the Shields Gazette.

Gazette editor Joy Yates has since thanked Sarah for helping boost the paper’s sales figures.

Said Sarah:  “Even at 16 I was pretty feisty. When a bloke would buy a porn magazine I wouldn’t offer him a bag. Instead they’d have to buy a Shields Gazette to hide their shame in.

“The manager came down one day and said ‘Since you started working here, sales of the Shields Gazette have shot up’.”

Joy thanked Sarah in a Tweet yesterday which read:  “Thank you @SarahMillican75 for boosting @shieldsgazette sales figures.”
