Former journalist turned professor awarded CBE

A former regional press journalist who went on to become a national newspaper editor and is now a university professor has been awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Ian Hargreaves started his career at the Keighley News in 1973-74 then joined Bradford’s Telegraph and Argus before going on to hold senior editorial and management positions at the Financial Times, the BBC, the Independent and the New Statesman.

He is now a Professor of Digital Economy at Cardiff University and was awarded the CBE for services to the creative economy and higher education.

The Cambridge graduate produced the Hargreaves Review for the Government which was published last year on how to improve intellectual property rights and also gave evidence at the Leveson Inquiry into Press Standards last December.
