Funds roll in three years after reporter’s death

Readers of a daily newspaper have helped to raise more than a thousand pounds in memory of a journalist who died from leukaemia three years ago.

Huddersfield Examiner reporter Adrian Sudbury died in August 2008 at the age of 27  following a battle with the illness.

The Huddersfield Examiner asked readers to donate funds to the Anthony Nolan Trust at its recent community awards.

Readers donated £1,291 to the charity, and the money adds to thousands already raised in Adrian’s name.

Adrian, known as Sudders, inspired thousands through his Baldy’s Blog, and was the inspiration behind a campaign which the Anthony Nolan Trust have continued in its Register and Be a Lifesaver project to educate more people about all forms of donation.

One of Adrian’s former colleagues at the Examiner, Katie Campling, is now a co-ordinator with the Anthony Nolan Trust’s Register and Be A Lifesaver.

She was presented with the donation by the Examiner’s Natasha Maskery, senior marketing executive.

Adrian became known around the world for his award-winning blog and for his campaign for compulsory classes about bone marrow, blood and organ donation to be added to the sixth form curriculum.

Other events held in memory of Adrian included a charity ride by a group of motorbike fanatics which took place last month. The event was called Av’ It For Adrian, which is the motto for biker group Tarmac Terrorists.
