Former striker Sutton backs daily’s text appeal

A football legend has thrown his weight behind a Scottish newspaper’s charity campaign.

Celtic player Chris Sutton is supporting the Daily Record’s Text for Tommy appeal.

The initiative aims to raise £1.2million to build a cancer research facility in memory of Celtic legend Tommy Burns who died of skin cancer, aged 51, in 2008.

The campaign has the backing of the Burns family, and Celtic and Glasgow University, who will operate the Tommy Burns Memorial Laboratory in the £19.2million Beatson Translational Centre.

Said Chris: “This is a great appeal and I would urge supporters of all clubs to back it. Tommy was a great Celt and this is a wonderful campaign in memory of a true football hero.”

The former Norwich, Blackburn Rovers and England striker had a cancer scare this year when he had a mole removed from his face.
