Complaint over newspaper tribute piece resolved

A complaint about inaccuracy in a tribute piece by a regional daily newspaper has been resolved by the Press Complaints Commission.

Ben Williams complained an article in the South Wales Argus paying tribute to the late Ivor Walters had suggested he founded company I.G. Engineering, which was not the case.

He said his late brother, Ieuan Williams, was actually one of the original founders and his family were concerned the article did not recognise his role.

The complaint has now been resolved by the PCC after it negotiated publication of a letter from Mr Williams in the newspaper.

It said Ieuan Williams had recently died and set out his involvement in founding the company, while it explained Mr Walters’ role in becoming managing director at a later stage.

The newspaper also included a photograph with the letter of Mr Williams being given the Queen’s Award by Prince Charles for his work and the deputy editor wrote personally to his widow Valerie Williams.
