Entries open for North-West awards

Entries are now open for the 18th annual North West Newspaper Awards with a total of £5,000 in prize money up for grabs.

The annual awards are organised by Sellafield Ltd and the North West region of the Society of Editors, in recognition of the best journalists and newspapers throughout Cheshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cumbria.

Winners receive £700 in the individual categories and £150 each for the two runners-up, while trophies will be awarded in the newspaper and website categories.

This year’s awards see the creation of a new category for the best newspaper with a circulation under 20,000.

Sellafield Ltd’s new director of stakeholder relations, Iain Irving, said: “I am delighted that we are able to continue with our support for the North West Newspaper Awards.

“It may be a difficult time for local newspapers, but from what I’ve seen the local press continues to produce top class news coverage, often against the odds.”

Iain added: “The new category has been introduced because we wanted to provide a level playing field so that everyone had a fairer chance of winning something.”

The awards are taking place at a special lunch in Cheshire on 19 June, and will include a tour around Sellafield Ltd’s Capenhurst site.

I’m delighted to see the awards business continues apace.
Any chance of seeing the list of nominations for the EDF South West awards on this site, given that the judging took place three weeks ago?
