Editor steps down after 43 years with one company

The Evening Telegraph in Dundee is advertising for a new editor to succeed Gordon Wishart who is to step down after 43 years with publishers DC Thomson.

Dundee-born Gordon took over the editor’s job from another one-company man, Alan Proctor, four years ago. He had previously been deputy editor.

Under his editorship, the paper managed to put on sales two years in a row while most other evening papers’ circulations were declining.

It followed a series of changes to the paper including making the content more localised and introducing more colour pages.

In the March 2008 ABC figures, it was one of only two evening titles in the UK to put on sales, along with the Swindon Advertiser. The most recent figures put its circulation at 23,180.

No date has yet been set for Gordon’s departure, but the forthcoming vacancy is already being advertised on various job boards.
