County magazines to merge under one editor

Regional magazine publisher Archant Life is merging two of its titles under one editor in the latest round of management changes.

The bi-monthly county magazine Lake District Life is to be incorporated into Lancashire Life under its editor Roger Borrell from this summer.

The current editor of Lake District Life, Paul Mackenzie, will become Mr Borrell’s deputy and will continue to look after a branded ‘Lakes section’ of the merged title.

Mr Borrell, a former regional newspaper executive with Trinity Mirror, also has editorial responsibility for Cheshire Life, Yorkshire Life, North East Life, Living Edge and the magazines’ associated websites.

He was given the role earlier this year following the departure of Liz Page in a previous shake-up.

He said: “Recent research has shown Lancashire readers have a strong affinity with the Lakes. In fact, features and pictures from this beautiful area are in their top three must-read items.

“It made sense to bring the two publications together in a way which further strengthens the UK’s biggest selling title while reducing our costs.”

Mr Borrell added: “We are certainly not abandoning the Lakes – it has been a very successful area for us and we are determined to continue that growth under the banner of Lancashire Life.”

Rival Lakes title Cumbria Life, owned by CN Newspapers, recently increased frequency of its county title from bi-monthly to monthly.
