The Grantham Journal’s video news operation has gone daily.
As well as round-the-clock web updates, the weekly paper is now producing a daily news bulletin – which is online from 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Reporters and newsroom staff take it in turns to film, edit and present the bulletin, which features five headlines shot in the newsroom, from the day’s stories and lasts around a minute.
Assistant editor Bob Hart said: “The bulletin started life as a weekly feature – but reader feedback was so good the move to daily production was the inevitable next step.
“Giving our readers daily news in a TV-style format has enormous potential for our area – and for relatively small weekly papers like ours.
“Production values might be a bit cheap and cheerful – and we’re not all Kaplinsky lookalikes – but we’re giving our readers what they want and that’s solid local content.”
All of the paper’s online video content is branded under the Journal TV logo.
The video weather report, which features on the Friday bulletin, has attracted premium sponsorship from the Territorial Army and sponsors are being sought for the daily segment.
There is also a weekly Friday sports bulletin presented by sports reporter John Burgess.
