Turning Japanese I think I'm turning Japanese I really think so

The land of the rising sun was not an option for Tamworth Herald scribe Mark Cocklin.

But the World Cup connection with his Midlands home is tenuous, to say the least, so enterprising Mark brought Japan to Tamworth and filled in the gaps between matches with as much oriental culture as possible.

  • T’ai Chi
    (Just look at that concentration!)
  • But how much Japanese culture is actually within easy reach of Tamworth?

Mark managed to fill his time – and produce a page of copy full of eastern promise – without leaving town.

First stop was the supermarket where he found oodles of noodles and loads of Japanese food to tickle his taste buds.

Sushi and sake always go down well!

Then out for some fresh air, with a spot of Tai Chi in the castle grounds

And to unwind, the video shop proved a big hit too, with titles such as Violent Cop, Sonaitine, Hana Bi and the feel-good tale Kikujiro on the “recommended” list.

Mark said, after his dip into Japanese traditions: “And then there is the football.

“Immersed in the beautiful game and oriental culture, have I really convinced myself I’m in Japan? Hei.”
