Tindle buys newspaper and radio station

Welsh language newspaper Y Cymro has been sold by North Wales Newspapers to entrepreneur and publisher Sir Ray Tindle.

The deal also saw Tindle Newspapers buy Radio Ceredigion 2000 Cyfyngedig and will enable Tindle Newspapers to further extend their commitment to the use of the Welsh language.

Y Cymro was founded in the 1920s and becomes the second welsh language paper under the management of Lis Owen-Jones at Tindle’s Aberystwyth office, which also runs the Dolgellau-based Y Dydd.

North Wales Newspapers chairman Russell Whitehair said an important element of the selection of Tindle Newspapers was that the company had extensive experience in both publishing and broadcasting, and therefore both Y Cymro and the radio station would “be in good hands for the future”.

Sir Ray said he was delighted with the two purchases, which would fit in well with his newspaper and radio interests in Wales.
