South Wales university named top for journalism studies

Cardiff University’s journalism studies degree is ranked number one in the latest national student survey.

The south Wales institute received an 89 per cent satisfaction rate for its journalism studies course, ranking it top out of 17 colleges and universities.

It was a double celebration for the university as its media studies degree came fifth out of 57 institutions assessed, with a 92 per cent satisfaction score.

The UK-wide study, run by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, puts 22 questions to students about their experiences on degree courses and this year received 177,000 responses.

Each institution is ranked in teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, personal development and overall satisfaction.

Head of school Professor Justin Lewis said: “We are delighted with these results.

“The continued effort of our teaching staff to be challenging and innovative is clearly reflected here.”

Dr Claire Wardle, head of teaching and learning in the school, added: “It’s good to see our commitment and investment being recognised.

“But we are not resting on our laurels – we are continually reviewing teaching and learning strategies in order to provide our students with the very best university experience.”
