Some newspapers do 'ave 'em

Regional reporters and photographers soon get used to dealing with tricky customers.

At Mid Somerset Newspapers they appear to have one of the all-time greats on their patch.

The front page of the newspaper group’s Central Somerset Gazette carried a photo of a massive hole exposing gas and water mains and reported on the resulting safety fears of nearby residents in Glastonbury.

The hole was the handiwork of their neighbour Stuart Pendragon, and the front page also carried a library shot of Mr Pendragon up to his waist in a similar seven-feet wide hole which he dug outside his home two years ago.

Mr Pendragon has told the paper’s staff that the digging is a legitimate attempt to find lost treasure left to him by members of the Royal family in connection with Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed.

A district council spokesman said, with great restraint, that the matter was in hand and that they were working towards a solution.

Mr Pendragon said that he was determined to carry on with the search for items left for him, including a ring under a gnome in another resident’s garden. He said his home was strategically important, being built in line with historically important sites.

He added: “I would now like to get sponsorship to get a builder to dig up the boulders which I have uncovered, which is hiding the metal trunk with the treasure inside.”

He also spoke of his hope of getting in touch with the TV archaeology programme Time Team.

Ummm.
