Royal scoop for Alan – one to one with a princess

Award-winning Falkirk Herald chief reporter Alan Muir spent 40 minutes with Princess Anne at Gleneagles Hotel where she gave an exclusive interview.

The paper won the interview after putting in a request with her press office to tackle the Princess on one of her regular visits to the Strathcarron Hospice.

The conversation centred on Strathcarron Hospice and produced tremendous coverage for the Denny complex.

The hospice was delighted, officials saying they could never have bought such good publicity.

Chief reporter Alan said: “I’ve met a lot of people but I was really quite nervous going in.

“She was fine. I went in, we shook hands and it was just me and her. I’m not a great royalist but she came across excellently.

“I was trying to pin her down on the local issues and that was hard. But she didn’t duck any questions at all.”

Earlier this year, Alan was named BT Scotland Weekly Journalist of the Year. His newspaper, the largest selling weekly in Scotland, earned its own awards double: Royal Bank of Scotland Local Newspaper of the Year and BT Weekly Newspaper of the Year.
