Reporter shows off his naked ambition

Sheerness Times Guardian reporter Stuart Somers showed his naked ambition to mark the end of a regular feature.

The 49-year-old has spent the last three months travelling around the Isle of Sheppey in Kent trying out interesting activities for in-paper series Somers’ Day Out.

During that time he has tried his hand at everything from making ice cream for holidaymakers to climbing 110ft to the top of the bridge linking Sheppey to the mainland and spending a day at a nature reserve.

But Stuart, who has worked for the Kent Messenger Group for 19 years, saved the best till last.

Braving 10 degree temperatures, he got his kit off and spent an afternoon at the remote Swale Naturist Beach.

Luckily for him, the poor weather meant it was just him, a copy of the Times Guardian and shell-shocked snapper Vernon Stratford to witness the event.

Stuart said: “I have had a lot of fun over the course of summer trying out ten different activities around Sheppey. I knew I had to end the feature with a bang and what better than to spend time at the Island’s best kept secret – its nudist beach.

“Amazingly, it wasn’t all that cold once I got started and I actually quite enjoyed the experience – maybe I have found a new hobby.”

Editor Matt Ramsden said: “I don’t know who I feel more sorry for – the photographer assigned to take the pictures or our thousands of readers.

“Somers’ Day has been a fantastic weekly feature – well received by readers. I am sure this won’t be the last we see of it.”
