The Beehive Online Community Networks for Derbyshire and Leicestershire, which gives non-profit-making groups the chance to create and publish websites for free, have celebrated their third birthday.
Around 1,500 groups, including amateur sports clubs, charities and other non-profit organisations have now registered to be part of the community network in the two counties.
They were originally launched as a joint pilot project and are now part of what has become a national network run by Northcliffe Newspapers.
Beehive staff continues to offer free help and advice by telephone and e-mail to help people build and develop sites.
And recent additions to the Leicestershire network have included the Friends of St Mary’s, Sileby – which raises funds for the upkeep of the church – and Leicestershire Environmental Education Network, which raises awareness of environmental issues.
Project manager Elaine Pritchard said: “We are delighted to continue to offer the opportunity for any not-for-profit group to build its own website free of charge.”
