Regional press snappers make Scottish photography shortlist

Photographers from The Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times in Glasgow, the Aberdeen Evening Express and The Falkirk Herald are among those shortlisted for this year’s First ScotRail Scottish Press Photography Awards.

They will do battle with their national and freelance colleagues next month, after being chosen as competition finalists by a panel of judges.

More than 3,000 entries were received for the awards.

Prizes will be handed out in more than a dozen categories, including Local Photographer of the Year.

Contenders for this category are Michael Gillen and Jimi Rae from The Falkirk Herald and freelance photographers Ken Amer, Gordon Fraser and Colin Robertson.

In the Young Photographer of the Year category, Donna Murray from the Aberdeen Evening Express is shortlisted alongside last year’s winner, Mark Sutherland from Northscot Press Agency, and Mark Anderson from Centre Press Agency, freelances Roddy Mackay and John Summers and Craig Williamson from SNS Group.

Visitors to the awards website www.scottishppa.com will also be able to vote on who wins in the Open Category, when the 12 photographs shortlisted are posted online.
