Maloney drums up MPs' support for Imps

Photographer Mike Maloney has taken the Lincolnshire Echo’s fight to Save City to the very top.

He has secured the backing of both MPs and members of the House of Lords for the campaign to secure the future of cash-strapped Lincoln City FC.

The former Lincolnshire Chronicle man, now group chief photographer for Mirror Group Newspapers, was chairing a panel of judges at a parliamentary photography competition, which involved entrants from both Houses of Parliament.

He took the opportunity to take to the platform and tell the members about City’s plight, then produced his own copy of the Save the Imps poster and spoke about the team he has supported for the past 45 years.

An Echo insider said: “Lord Healey, a long-time friend of Mike’s and an accomplished photographer, may not have known too much about the Imps before the start of the conversation.

“But by the time Mike had finished he was quite adamant: ‘The Imps must be saved’.”

Grimsby MP and former TV presenter Austin Mitchell was already familiar with the football club and its problems and was also quick to lend his support.
