Out of court settlement for journalist

A Yorkshire journalist has received an out-of-court settlement after he claimed he was forced out of his job.

Ex-News of the World reporter Andy Germaine worked at the Selby Post newspaper.

After leaving the paper he filed a claim to an employment tribunal complaining that he was unfairly dismissed and that the had company failed to provide him with written terms and conditions of his employment.

The matter was settled out of court with Andy receiving a four-figure sum, although he was unable to discuss the settlement itself due to a confidentiality agreement with his former employers. The Selby Post also declined to comment on the matter.

During his time at the paper he was responsible for a series of exclusives and offbeat stories.

Police temporarily banned him from its daily press briefings after his front page exposé of a Government-licensed cannabis factory in Cawood village, four miles from Selby.

And he was asked to officially open a new adult fun shop in the town – next door to rival publication the Selby Times.
