Bristol United Press finance director Andrew Calvert is to fill a newly-created Northcliffe group position of corporate development director.
His new role will be to advise the board on mergers and acquisition strategy, competition compliance issues and risk management.
Chief executive Alan Goode will continue at Bristol United Press, which publishes the Bristol Evening Post and Western Daily Press, and will take over the direct management of the Bristol newspaper business.
Alan was previously editor of the Evening Herald, Plymouth, and deputy editor of the Wolverhampton Express & Star. He went on to become deputy MD of the Western Morning News Co Ltd and then MD at the Cornish Guardian. In 1993 he was seconded to Bristol United Press Ltd to restructure the Western Gazette Company and a year later he was promoted to chief executive of BUP.
In other moves announced by the Northcliffe group, Paul Kearney, currently MD of the company’s Bristol newspapers, is to take up the same role in the South East to run the group’s weekly newspaper businesses in Chelmsford and Tunbridge Wells.
Paul, a main board director of Bristol United Press, was previously deputy MD at the Leicester Mercury, and before that was assistant group advertisement director for Northcliffe Newspapers, previously spending ten years with Thomson Regional Newspapers in commercial management positions in Chester, Edinburgh and Reading.
Paul Newman has been promoted to deputy managing director under Paul Kearney and will also retain his finance director responsibilities.
