Now Bette's a TV star too

Lincolnshire Echo writer Bette Vickers has become a star of the small screen, after appearing on Yorkshire Television’s Calendar news programme.

Presenter Alan Hardwick visited the Echo offices to talk to best-selling author Bette about her new book Bread ‘n’ if it.

The TV appearance coincides with another achievement for Bette, after her book was named top of the Ottakar’s list of current best selling books on Lincolnshire.

“I cannot believe this has happened to me – I’m overwhelmed,” she said.

“I think it’s such a privilege to do what I do, to write books and write for the Lincolnshire Echo.”

The book is a collection of cottage and farmhouse recipes and short stories, some of which originate from old copies of the Echo.

Bette has written for the paper for the past 20 years and is most well known as the lady behind Churchlines, Vickers in a Twist, Bette’s Bygones and the obituary section.

Following the publication of a popular series of children’s books in the 1970s, Bette has created a highly successful series of novels, spanning over 140 years of British life.
