New roles for south east editors

Editors at two south east weeklies were today beginning new roles at their respective newspapers.

Brentwood Gazette editor Roger Watkins has been promoted to managing editor at the series, while Frank Baldwin has also taken on the role of managing editor at the Sevenoaks Chronicle.

The appointments mean that in addition to their current editorial roles they will help to monitor the advertising and newspaper sales performance of the titles, together with the relevant advertisement director and newspaper sales managers.

The changes are part of an effort by the newspapers to plan publishing activities more closely around the changing needs of their customers and make sure that the titles are projected better to potential readers through effective advertising and promotions.

Before being appointed editor at the Brentwood Gazette, Roger worked at the Daily Express, as chief sub, night editor and then assistant editor.

Frank originally joined the Sevenoaks Chronicle in 1978 as a reporter before becoming sports editor.

After a short break he returned to the paper to become news editor and then deputy editor, leaving again in 1988 to publish travel magazines and run his own publishing company, before returning again as editor in 2000.
