NetMedia 2000 awards

Tonight (Thursday, July 6) sees the presentation of the European Online Journalism Awards.

Nearly 300 European journalists and media organisations entered the competition – run for the first time this year.

The ceremony takes place on the opening day of NetMedia 2000 at London’s City University.

Speakers and guests at the two-day conference will include: Alan Rusbridger, editor of The Guardian; Paul Maidment, editor of FT.com; Leah Gentry, editorial director of New Media, Los Angeles Times and Emma Duncan, media editor at The Economist.

Nearly 3,300 delegates from across Europe have registered to attend what is the 6th annual NetMedia event.

NetMedia is the only European internet event devoted exclusively to examining how the internet and new media technologies are changing journalistic practices. It will examine the promises and pitfalls of the emerging communication technologies.

Milverton Wallace, organiser of NetMedia, said: “The conference brings together leading media practitioners from the US and Europe to share their experience and knowledge of current developments and offers hands-on workshops so journalists can test drive the new technologies.”
