Metro expansion hits East Midlands

Free newspaper Metro has been launched across the East Midlands, hitting the streets of Leicester, Nottingham and Derby for the first time this week.

Published by Associated Newspapers in partnership with Northcliffe Newspapers, the paper will be available Monday to Friday, with around 60,000 copies given away each day on buses and trains in the three cities.

The paper, designed specifically for morning commuters who would otherwise not read a national newspaper, will primarily contain national and international news and sports stories, as well as short celebrity and health features.

It will be printed by Northcliffe Press (Midlands).

Metro is already given away in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Next week will also see the launch of a Bristol edition, also covering Cheltenham and Bath, with a projected distribution of 35,000.
