Meeting new faces

The Society of Editors is seeking early meetings with new Government ministers after recent changes to the Cabinet.

The Society’s contacts at the Home Office and the Department of Culture Media and Sport have changed in the recent reshuffle.

There is also a new Attorney General and responsibility for Freedom of Information and Data Protection issues has passed from the Home Office to the Lord Chancellor’s Department.

The Society has written to all the new ministers asking for early meetings – and reminding them of former Home Secretary Jack Straw’s pledge that all new legislation should be subject to a media audit to try to avoid unintended implications for the media’s ability to report.
