Media-Plus gives training help

A group of media friends and colleagues – with years of training experience between them – has set up a company called Media-Plus to offer bespoke training packages for newspapers as well as magazines and PR firms.

Driving forces behind the company are Mark Parry and Graham Wiles who were friends and colleagues for years with the United Provincial Newspapers group – now Regional Independent Media.

Mark Parry took early retirment after reaching the rank of Executive Editor with UPN. He previously held key senior editorial posts at some of the most influential newspapers in the regional press, including news editor of the Yorkshire Post.

He has lectured in journalism at Darlington and Leeds colleges and does verification work for NVQs at newspapers and magazine offices.

Graham Wiles was a chief investigative journalist, news editor and chief assistant editor during an award-winning regional newspaper career. He was head of content on the Yorkshire Post and took early retirement soon after Mark Parry left the company.

A qualified NVQ assessor, he developed and ran UPN’s editorial training scheme and is also active in the development of IT skills for journalists.

Joining them as consultants in the Media-Plus venture are former editor Ron Hunt, who runs his own editorial and design consultancy, and law lecturer and former associate editor of the Liverpool Echo, Vincent Kelly.

Media-Plus is based in North Yorkshire, and you can visit its website here at www.media-plus.co.uk
