The Birmingham Evening Mail published its front page headline in Mandarin Chinese as part of its fight for answers on the future of Longbridge.

The unusual move was a symbolic gesture to Nanjing Automobile, the new owners of MG Rover, in a bid to put an end to rumours and get answers to the paper’s 12 crucial questions.

The front page included a headline in Mandarin Chinese which said ‘No More Chinese Whispers’ Mr Liu’, with a translation underneath.

The Mail’s 12 questions were also translated into Madarin, with the help of a local business that does English to Chinese technical translations, and these were sent to Nanjing’s director of public affairs, Ningsheng Liu.

Reporter Catherine Lillington (pictured) also delivered a dossier to the Chinese embassy in London – but was met with a wall of silence.

Chinese firm Nanjing Automobile bought Longbridge in July, after it collapsed into administration resulting in the loss of 6,000 jobs.

Now the Mail wants to know what the firm’s business plan is for Longbridge, how much money will be invested and how many jobs will be created, as well as demanding answers to a host of other questions.
