Launch of new journalism workshops for distance learners

The NCTJ is to run a series of workshops for trainees studying distance learning qualifications.

The classes, to be held next spring, are part of their Foundation Course in News Reporting.

The qualification has been recently revamped with the workshops set up following requests from students for more tutor contact.

The first series took place last month and looked into media law, public affairs and news writing and portfolio work.

They were offered to not only distance learners but also direct entrants, those already working on a newspaper and re-sit candidates.

Student journalists completed sample exam papers and were given feedback on their performance while tutors worked through problem areas and gave tips for exam success.

The next set of workshops will be held in March prior to the national preliminary exams on May 13, 14 and 15. For more information about the workshops e-mail [email protected].
