Historic Essex is celebrated in new book

One hundred years of headlines are celebrated in a new book by the Essex Chronicle.

Headline History was launched at the opening of the new Essex Record Office, where old editions of the Chronicle are now kept.

It features major stories from the last century as seen through the eyes of the Chronicle.

The entire archive was transported to its new home at the centre in a ceremony in October.

To make the event special, the Chronicle arranged for the records to travel in an 1890s mail coach pulled by four Gelderlander horses.

The book comes with a compact disc featuring interviews from leading figures from the county’s past compiled by historian Dr Stephen Hussey.
