Free papers snapped up

Eight free newspapers are set to be snapped up by Johnston Press for £16.1m.

The move will see the Edinburgh-based company take on Trinity Mirror’s Peterborough Herald & Post, the Northampton Herald & Post, the Derby Trader and five other frees which circulate in and around those areas.

The move has yet to be approved by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry.

A statement from Johnston Press said the titles would be incorporated as appropriate into the North, South and East Midlands Divisions of Johnston Press plc.
