Former Herald reporter now delivers the paper

A former Tamworth Herald reporter who quit the paper more than 20 years ago has returned to his old patch – delivering the title as part of his paper round.

After 30 years in journalism, Nick Hudson has embarked on a new career and is now running a post office in Drayton Bassett, where part of his job is to deliver the paper he used to write for.

Nick was the Herald’s chief reporter in the 1970s, and later became editor of the Dover Express and Folkestone Herald as well as working for several national newspapers, including the Sun, Daily Star and Sunday Sport.

Talking about his new career, Nick said: “In my 30 years of journalism I’ve met some fantastic people and had a wonderful time. I just got to the point where I’d gone as far as I could.

“Now I’m content to settle in Drayton Bassett and concentrate on this business long term.”

  • Nick’s return to the area has also made him something of a local hero – by saving the post office from certain closure and winning the first licence to sell alcohol in the village for over 100 years.
