Former Grimsby Telegraph sub-editor dies

Former Grimsby Telegraph sub-editor Denis Cross has died after suffering a heart attack.

He had struggled bravely against a serious heart condition throughout the summer, and had spent a long spell in hospital.

Denis, (70), worked on a number of newspapers during his career, including the Louth Advertiser and Nottingham Evening Post, before joining the Grimsby Telegraph.

He ran the paper’s Louth office for many years before moving to the sub-editors’ desk at Grimsby and becoming a key member of the team during the introduction of new technology on the paper in the late 1980s.

He retired about 10 years ago to look after his ailing mother, but returned to work at the paper part-time after her death.

Telegraph reporter Peter Craig said: “Denis was the epitome of the Telegraph, hard-working, precise, smart, caring and he took great pride in the newspaper. He had a tremendous sense of humour which we shall all miss.”
