'Dr Death' reporter wins Crime Scoop of The Decade award

Award-winning Manchester Evening News reporter Mikaela Sitford hasscooped another top accolade.

Mikaela (32) won the Crime Scoop Of The Decade award for her work in breaking the story of mass murderer Dr Harold Shipman.

She was awarded the special prize at yesterday’s London Press Club Annual Awards ceremony for what the judges described as a “stunning exclusive”.

Head of the MEN’s Tameside district office, Mikaela was applauded for revealing the police investigation into the deaths of patients of the Hyde GP, now serving a life sentence.

Her scoop was followed up by newspapers, TV and radio around the world as she continued to break exclusives about the case which shocked the nation.

An audience of top journalists and VIPs in the capital were told that the MEN had produced “an exclusive news report of megaton proportions” which had been “brilliantly and carefully handled”.

Mikaela has already been named BT North West Journalist of the Year and Regional Journalist of the Year, as well as winning the UK Press Gazette Scoop of the Year award.
