"Tip Us Off", says Guardian

A London weekly has teamed up with the local council, a campaigning group and three local businesses to set up the Tip Us Off campaign against flytipping.

It is a bid by the Walthamstow Guardian to start cleaning up the borough.

The initiative will run up to the Christmas holiday, during which time residents will be urged to inform on people they know are responsible for littering the area with dumped rubbish.

Waltham Forest Council, Waltham Forest Civic Society and the businesses are working with the Guardian to run a major public information programme with posters, leaflets and other material.

Council officers will visit schools in the borough and as part of the campaign, a special competition for youngsters will be run.

Commenting on the campaign, Coun Eric Sizer, cabinet member for environment and street scene, said: “Flytipping has become a real scourge in Waltham Forest. We want to mobilise the majority of decent people to help us end this problem and clean up our borough.”
