Baby Jane's paper chase

When the crew of a Somerset amateur dramatics production found themselves in a fix, they called on their local paper to help them out.

Stage designers for the musical Gypsy were stuck for ideas after being asked to design a door for an actress to break through during each performance.

In desperation, props manager Joy Taylor turned to Philip Welch, editor at Mid-Somerset Newspapers for help.

And of course, he duly obliged by getting hold of a 4ft wide roll of paper from the print room at MSN.

The paper is used to print the Shepton Mallet Journal, Central Somerset Gazette, Cheddar Valley Gazette and the Wells Journal.

But the drama group put it to more artistic use by attaching it to a door frame for the character, Baby Jane, to miraculously burst through every night.
