£1,000 for a true-life story

A website specialising in real-life stories has launched its third competition with a top cash prize of £1,000.

Toowrite.com, was originated by the Derby Evening Telegraph.

It has tapped into the interest in reading real experiences by real people.

Many of the stories which have been sent to the website have appeared in the Telegraph and its sister titles as well as in other newspapers outside the Northcliffe group.

The competition is open to anyone in the world to write up to 1,500 words on any experience in their life that they think other people would like to read about.

The stories can be about any subject and the tone can be serious or light-hearted. They must be previously unpublished.

Editor of Toowrite.com, Julie Weston, said: “The previous two competitions have been a great success. I was impressed with the high standard of entries.”

The winner of the best article will receive £1,000 from Royal Mail

The first runner-up will receive £75 worth of books from Bookstall Forum of Derby and the second runner-up will be given a £60 Cross pen courtesy of Bennetts of Derby.

Every story submitted will be published on Toowrite.com

No more than five entries per person are permitted. All entrants must be willing to have their articles produced on the Internet. The best will be reproduced in the Derby Evening Telegraph or one of the other top regional morning and evening newspapers in the country. The Derby Evening Telegraph will retain the copyright on all entries.

The closing date for entries is March 14, 2001.
