Editor pays tribute as ‘face’ of newspapers bows out

doris-senffA regional daily editor paid tribute to a receptionist he called the “face” of his newspaper as she retired after almost 40 years of service.

Doris Senff, left, has hung up her headset for the last time after working for Aberdeen Journals since 1977.

Doris initially worked as a shorthand typist, and over the years she has worked the telephone switchboard, in the Journals’ former Union Street shop, and attended countless roadshows.

She was presented with gifts from colleagues on her last day at the Journals, which publishes the Press & Journal and Aberdeen Evening Express.

Damian Bates, editor-in-chief of the Press and Journal said: “Doris has been the face of Aberdeen Journals for so many people coming into our home on the Lang Stracht and at roadshows throughout the area.

“Her dedication and warmth has been a fabulous fillip for so many of us when we arrive in the morning and we’ll miss her cheery ‘good morning’ as she enters a new chapter in her life. We all wish her well and know we’ll all miss her enormously.”

Doris, 59, added: “I’m excited for the future. It’s been an amazing time working here. It never felt like work, it always felt like coming in to meet friends.

“It will be strange not coming into work, but I’ve got a night out every day this weekend so it will be good not having to come into work on Monday.”
